New year new version of me! You've probably all heard the slogan "New Year New Me!" Where that slogan can have value it's important to recognize your value aside from the things you want to be better at. People who are incredibly successful at their jobs often want to be a "new me" because their family grew incredibly frustrated with how much they worked over the last year. People who are great at their jobs and have invested a ton of time into their family might be frustrated with how out of shape they've gotten. People who are in the best shape of their lives might want to be a "new me" because they're wanting to strengthen relationships this year and find new hobbies.
It's important to remember that no one is perfect, and it's okay to have areas of your life that you want to improve upon. The thing is, it's also important to recognize and appreciate your own value and worth, regardless of whether or not you achieve all of your goals. None of that means to not set your goals and attack them every day. As a matter of fact, I'd encourage all of you to write your goals down for the year and to have a plan for how you were going to achieve them. Keep in mind that, if you achieve every goal you ever set quickly and easily, that your goals aren't lofty enough. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf once said, "If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough!" It's easy to get caught up in the idea of becoming a "new me," but it's more important to focus on becoming the best version of yourself. This means embracing your strengths and weaknesses and working on the things that matter most to you. Your goals should be consistent with those things.
As you embark on a new year, take some time to reflect on what's truly important to you, and make a plan to work towards those goals. Whether it's spending more time with loved ones, improving your physical health, or focusing on your career, it's important to be kind to yourself and remember that progress is often made in small steps. If there's one goal that I'd love for everyone to have going into 2023 it's to prioritize your mental health! This blog focuses on men's mental health, but ladies please make sure you're taking care of yourselves as well! I've chosen to focus on men's mental health because I'm uniquely able to speak to it and I see it as a significant need in society, but I want all of us to make ourselves a priority.
So, let's start the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and determination, and embrace the journey of becoming the absolute best versions of ourselves while being thankful for where we've come from and who we presently are. As always please do something positive today. Feed a hungry person, listen to a grieving person, lend an ear or a helping hand. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!
